How to set notifications without getting overwhelmed

Good notifications help you act in time. Bad notifications create noise. The goal is to keep the first kind and reduce the second.

4 min read

The best notification setup is selective. You want reminders that help you act, not a stream of updates that you start to ignore.

Keep the essentials on: registration result, important schedule change, venue change, and event reminder. These are the messages that actually affect whether you show up on time.

Everything else should earn its place. If a notification does not change what you do next, it probably does not need to interrupt you.

Review your settings once in a while. As your usage changes from exploration to regular participation, the right balance of reminders will also change.

  • Keep registration, schedule change, and venue change reminders on
  • Turn down low-value noise that does not affect your next action
  • Match your notification level to how often you really participate
  • Revisit settings after your routine changes
